Holy Land – As the Vatican this week, published the program for Pope Francis for the next WYD, the Holy Land is preparing 115 young people who will go to Rio and will be accompanied by Bishop William Shomali, Auxiliary Bishop for Jerusalem and Palestine, and Father Aziz Halaweh, general Chaplain of Youth Catholic students in Palestine.

The head of the Coptic Orthodox Church, His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark met with Pope Francis today in a historical meeting held in the Apostolic Palace today.
This is the first time in 40 years that a Coptic Pope has met with the Pope of Rome. On May 1973. Pope Shenouda III met with Pope Paul VI and signed an an important Christological Declaration in common and initiated bilateral ecumenical dialogue between the two Churches.

Palestinian Christians in the village of Beit Jala in the occupied West Bank have written an open letter to Pope Francis in protest at the Israeli decision to build a Wall separating Bethlehem from Jerusalem for the benefit of the illegal Jewish settlements. The Pope has been urged to ask Israel to stop the construction of the so-called Separation Wall in Bethlehem.
The representatives of Beit Jala, which is near Bethlehem said, “We are at risk of seeing most of our land seized by the Israeli occupation army, which has actually started the construction of the wall annexing all the Christian Palestinian land.”

Press Release : An Appeal from the Patriarchs and Heads of Churches in Jerusalem, concerning the kidnapping of two Metropolitan bishops in Aleppo Syria- May 2013.
We, the Heads of Churches in Jerusalem, have been prayerfully following the ongoing violence, bloodshed, and conflict in Syria, which started in March 2011. Everyday tens or sometimes hundreds of people are killed because of the current conflict, and thousands are left without homes or shelters as they keep moving aimlessly in search of security, food and treatment.

JERUSALEM – All the Christian Churches of the Holy Land met on Tuesday morning, May 7, 2013, to exchange traditional Easter wishes. The Orthodox celebrated Easter on May 5, according to the Julian calendar. For the record, the majority of Latin Catholics in the Diocese of the Holy Land also celebrated Easter on May 5, following a directive of the Assembly of Catholic Ordinaries of the Holy Land (ACOHL).
