On Wednesday, May 6 at 10 am at the Christian Media Center in Jerusalem, a press conference convened by the Assembly of Catholic Ordinaries of the Holy Land will present the liturgical and pastoral initiatives that will prepare and follow the upcoming canonization of the two Blessed Palestinians: Sister Marie Alphonsine Ghattas and the Carmelite, Mariam Bawardi, to be held in Rome on May 17.

The debate on the opportunity to unify the dates of the liturgical solemnities currently celebrated on different days from different Churches and communities, is "a historical problem" that in itself does not have implications of faith and doctrine. This is why the proposal to unify the Easter date for all Christian Churches "on the third Sunday of April" is being studied. This is what Patriarch Tawadros II said during a meeting with young people which took place on Sunday, May 3 at the Coptic Cultural Centre in Amsterdam, in the context of the visit carried out by Pope Tawadros in the Netherlands and in other European countries.

The Muslim Christian Coalition (MCC) concluded a successful inaugural dinner and fundraiser on Friday, May 1, introducing a movement of Muslims and Christians, along with people of other faiths, to defend Christians and religious minorities in the Arab world.

In alarm and deep concern for Arab Christians & other religious minorities under attack, and with a clear understanding that peace, justice and freedom are only possible in a culture of coexistence, the Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation (HCEF) has taken the initiative to bring together Christian and Muslim leaders to join their voices against the violence, discrimination and persecution in the Middle East, especially in Iraq, Egypt and Syria. MCC is a campaign whereby Muslims and Christians work together to restore their historical coexistence and preserve the continuous presence of Christians, as well as other indigenous religious groups, in the Arab countries as an integral fiber in the fabric of Arab & Muslim civilization.

The Pope wants to visit, according to Archbishop Warda, but his staff "would not allow him to at present"

It would be possible for the Pope to visit Iraq, Chaldean Archbishop Bashar Warda of Erbil has said.

In an interview with the charity Aid to the Church in Need, he said: “I spoke to His Holiness in person last November and told him that we would be delighted to welcome him in Erbil. He replied that he would be pleased to come, but that his staff would not allow him to at present.”

In view of the parliamentary debate on the adoption of the Constitution of the Autonomous Region of Iraqi Kurdistan, Chaldean Patriarch Louis Raphael I intends to open a free and serene debate on the formulas which in the constitutional text will indicate members of the various Christian communities as full citizens, with the same rights and duties enjoyed by other members of the local people. The Chaldean patriarch - said in a note sent to Agenzia Fides - is planning to discuss this topic with other primates of the Eastern Churches, such as the Assyrian Church of the East, the Syrian Orthodox Church and the Syrian Catholic Church .

Imams and Priests Promote the "Culture of Encounter" Preaching Together in Schools in Minya PDF Print E-mail

The collective "mission" of a large group of imam linked to al Azhar – the biggest theological center of Sunni Islam - and Coptic priests begins today, who for a few days will visit together the schools in the Egyptian province of Minya to meet the students and promote the culture of encounter and of peace during conferences and debates, enhancing it as the basis of peaceful social and religious coexistence. The initiative, supported by the Grand Imam of Al Azhar Ahmad al-Tayyeb and Coptic Orthodox Patriarch Tawadros II, aims to strengthen the fabric of national solidarity and to promote mutual tolerance based on shared values, starting with compassion and solidarity towards fellow citizens in need.

Sinai Jihadist Groups Threaten Copts for Their Support to President al-Sisi PDF Print E-mail

The Coptic Christians must leave their homes and the Sinai Peninsula if they do not want to die for the next targeted attacks that jihadist groups operating in the Peninsula are preparing to carry out against them. The threat, direct and selective, was spread through social networks by militants, such as the Ansar Beit al-Maqdis group. In their threatening messages jihadists explicitly declare that the Copts are a target of their violence because of their support towards President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, and therefore for their non-marginal contribution to the consensus enjoyed by the current strong man of Egypt.
