The current situation in the greater Holy Land has put the Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation at a crossroads for the focus of their 16th International Conference. HCEF must cover an array of urgent issues ranging from the fate of the Palestinian Christians, the ever prevalent Israeli-Palestinian Conflict, to the persecuted Christians of the Middle East, their future and the future of all inhabitants in the region.

altThe war between Israel and Hamas has exasperated an already dire humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. After the 51-day war ended, Gaza’s fragile infrastructure including health, education, water and sanitation facilities and electrical infrastructure has sustained severe damages. Israel still bans construction materials from entering the Gaza Strip stalling major efforts to reconstruct local businesses, factories, public institutions, schools and homes. Gaza’s unemployment and poverty rates have been driven to higher levels due to the level of destruction. Thousands of families whose homes were damaged or destroyed remain homeless and continue to struggle to find adequate shelter.

Mr. Carroll, RECIPIENT OF THE 2014 PRESIDENT’S AWARD, serves as a longtime volunteer and friend to HCEF.  His consistent participation and passionate  involvement have been a blessing in community outreach.  He has demonstrated his commitment by regularly volunteering at the office, attending meetings and  events, and serving as the registration chairperson for HCEF annual conferences.  Through love and kindness, Mr. Carroll encompasses the foundation’s mission  by faithfully volunteering.  He says, “There are few places where I have ever worked that I love the people and they love me back in kind. That's the secret.”  Mr.  Carroll’s continual community efforts are an inspiration and bring joy to all involved.

altGaza City - 240,000 children return to United Nations-run classrooms in Gaza where many of their schools have been damaged and destroyed. "After the traumatic 50 days of brutal conflict, death, destruction and massive displacement, we are determined to give the children a sense of renewed hope and better prospects by opening the schools so soon again" reads a note of the Commissioner-General of UNRWA , sent to Fides Agency. Over 90 schools in Gaza were used as shelters for the many people displaced by the bombing during the attacks against the civilian population of the Gaza Strip.
