altFrom Palestine, the Holy Land, we extend our warmest greetings to peoples around the world while we celebrate the occasion of the birth of the prince of peace, Jesus, peace be upon him.

More Than 7,000 Christian Refugees from Iraq; Caritas Jordan: "In Two Months We Will Not Have any more Resources to Assist Them" PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 16 December 2014 08:54

altAmman – There are now more than 7000 Iraqi Christians who have fled from Mosul and Nineveh Plain and have found refuge in Jordan and the resources available for their assistance will end within two months. The warning comes from Wael Suleiman, director of Caritas Jordan. "70 percent of Christian refugees - reports Suleiman to Agenzia Fides - is concentrated in the Amman area. A thousand of them are housed in 18 parishes, others have found accommodation in houses. They live dreaming of escaping to America, Australia and Europe, this situation mainly has affects on school age boys and girls: they spend days doing nothing, also because, for bureaucratic reasons, they have no access to Jordanian schools".

Thursday, 11 December 2014 07:45

altRome - The leaders of the great powers and rulers of Iraq must "hasten the release of Mosul and Nineveh Plain" from the jihadists of the Islamic State, so that the refugees who fled from those lands can return to live in their own homes in peace and security. This is how the appeal in the document begins, released by the Syro-Catholic Bishops at the end of their annual Synod, held in Rome from 8 to 10 December, under the presidency of His Beatitude Ignace Youssif III, Patriarch of Antioch of the Syrians. The summary of the Synod text, divided into 9 points, expresses expectations, considerations and projects of the pastors of the Catholic Church of the Eastern Rite with regards to the problems experienced by the peoples of the Middle East, with particular reference to the difficulties and suffering faced by local Christian communities.
