Effectively exiled from his friary in Mosul by the Islamic State last year, Fr. Najeeb Michaeel, O.P. is working to preserve Christian manuscripts through digitization, recording a memory of Iraq's Christian past.

Fr. Najeeb Michaeel is an Iraqi native who studied in the U.S., and founded in 1990 the Center for the Digitization of Oriental Manuscripts to foster the collection and recording of ancient manuscripts which he had started in the 1980s.

Michel Sabbah, gave in English language a high valued lecture, which we call on you to read thoroughly:

Who are the “indigenous” Christians in the Holy Land? What challenges do they face nowadays? What choices do they have regarding their future? It is basically these three questions which Mgr Michel Sabbah, Latin Patriarch Emeritus of Jerusalem, tried to answer during this conference at the Hebrew University on 22 January 2015.

The Egyptian Government Allocates Land for The Construction of New Churches in The Capital PDF Print E-mail

A plot of 30 hectares has been made available to the Coptic Patriarchate to build structures and offices connected to the Cathedral of San Marco in Cairo, and three other smaller plots of land to be allocated for the construction of three new churches (two Coptic Orthodox churches and one Coptic evangelical) in three different areas of Cairo: These provisions ratified recently by the Egyptian Ministry for construction, services and urban communities, was made known by the minister Mostafa Madbouly.

On the 9th and 10th/22nd and 23rd of January 2015, the Executive Committee of the Middle East Council of Churches (M.E.C.C.) was convened at the Marriott Hotel by the Dead Sea. Leaders or the Representatives of Leaders of the Four Families comprising the M.E.C.C. participate in this Committee, namely: the Eastern Orthodox (Patriarchates of Alexandria, Antioch, Jerusalem, Church of Cyprus) the Pro-Chalcedon (Armenians, Copts, Syrians), the Catholic and the Evangelical Churches.

Jordan's King Abdullah II praised Pope Francis' words on the need to reconcile freedom of expression and respect for religions and religious symbols. The monarch expressed his support for the Holy Father's sentiments during a meeting with leaders of the Bedouin tribe of Beni Sakhr. During his flight from Colombo to Manila this month, Pope Francis emphasized that everyone not only has the freedom, the right, but also the obligation, to say what they think in order to promote the common good."

Copts Killed and Churches Attacked in the Riots on January 25 PDF Print E-mail

There are at least three Christian Copts - including a 10-year-child - among the victims of the clashes in Cairo and other Egyptian cities on the occasion of the fourth anniversary that caused the end of the long regime of President Hosni Mubarak. Local sources consulted by Agenzia Fides add that, during the riots, shots were fired against the church of St. Raphael the Archangel in Maadi.
