President and CEO of the Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation Sir Rateb Rabie has returned from his trip to Chile - home to the largest population of Palestinians outside the Middle East - where he formed partnerships with the major Arab and Palestinian organizations in Chile. Sir Rateb met with these organizations and together they developed plans to support Palestinians in the Holy Land.

 

The Palestinian community of Chile is vibrant and growing, numbering over 350,000 individuals. The majority have roots in Bait Jala, Bethlehem, and Bait Sahour, cities of the greater Bethlehem governorate. This report will present the highlights of this journey.

altAmman - The final document approved at the conclusion of the Conference on Christians and "Arab Springs", organized on 22 and 23 November in Amman, by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the Al-Quds Center for Political Studies is called "Amman Declaration". The meeting was attended by parliamentarians and politicians of different nations of the Middle East, along with representatives of churches and Christian communities, such as the Chaldean Archbishop of Kirkuk, Mgr. Yousif Thomas Mirkis.

altJERUSALEM – On the 19th of November 2014 a conference was held on Children’s Rights in Jerusalem, attended by some jurists and specialists. The issue of civil registration of Palestinian children in Jerusalem and the impossibility for them to get, like their parents, a “permanent residence” or an identity card was raised.  An issue linked to the larger issue of family reunion.

“Childhood Interrupted: Child Registration in Jerusalem”

That was the theme of the conference organized by St Yves Society – the legal association affiliated to the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem – in collaboration with Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Jerusalem. The conference took place at the Pontifical Center Notre Dame of Jerusalem.

Children Without Citizenship: The Question of Palestinian Children Not Registered Reopens PDF Print E-mail

altJerusalem - Many Palestinian children in East Jerusalem continue not to have an ID card or proof of permanent residency. Their condition was analyzed during a conference hosted on November 19 in Jerusalem, at the Pontifical Institute Notre Dame of Jerusalem. The conference, entitled "Childhood interrupted: Child registration in Jerusalem", was organized by the Saint-Yves Society, linked to the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem, with the Konrad Adenauer Association.

Children of Palestinians in prison, and those who belong to families separated (for example, they have a parent residing in the West Bank), whose reunification finds obstacles in the Israel legislation are those who suffer most and do not have an ID card or permanent residency.

Jerusalem Religious Leaders Visit Har Nof Synagogue PDF Print E-mail

altJERUSALEM – On Wednesday, November 19, Religious Leaders of Jerusalem: Christians, Muslims, Druze, visited the synagogue, which was the target of a vicious attack the day before.  Four Jews and an Israeli police officer were killed. The visit to the Jewish community was a  sign of solidarity and an appeal to the people of the  Holy Land and  the world to promote peace and freedom of religion.

“Your gesture is most welcome. If someone ever criticizes you, pretend not to hear him because your gesture is welcome”. These were the words that welcomed the religious leaders of Jerusalem at the Office of Religious Affairs of the Ministry of Interior, and later all together visited the synagogue in the Har Nof neighborhood in West Jerusalem.

altGaza - The military conflict in the Gaza Strip has had serious consequences on the lives of Palestinian children and their families. There are about a thousand young children who are handicapped because of the bombing of Israel against civilians in the Palestinian territory. This is what is reported by the Euro-Mediterranean Observatory, a group that deals with the protection of human rights which is based in the Country. In a press release the group denounced the fact that the Israeli army uses illegal bullets containing thousands of iron nails that penetrate the flesh and bones of humans causing wounds, cuts and serious damage to the body.

The recurrence of this type of blackmail by phone, denounced by the victims to the www.ankawa.com arabic site, is just the latest of the violence suffered by those who fled Mosul after the second city fell under the control of jihadist militants of the Islamic State, on June 9.
