The President of the Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation (HCEF), Sir Rateb Rabie, has announced the selection of a noted Californian surgeon and humanitarian, Dr. Musa Nasir, to receive the foundation's HCEF Award for 2008. Sir Rateb made the announcement based on the unanimous vote of HCEF's Board of Directors, in favor of Dr. Musa.

In making his announcement, President Rabie stated, "The HCEF award is bestowed each year on an individual who has demonstrated a strong commitment to the physical and spiritual welfare of the 'living stones' of Christianity in the Holy Land, and who has worked with distinction for the cause of justice and peace there.

"Dr. Musa Nasir is such a person. He was one of the founders of the Palestinian Children's Relief Fund, which provides specialized medical care for injured and sick children in Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon, and he is currently the Chairman of the Board of Directors of that outstanding organization. Last year the Palestinian Children's Relief Fund provided life-saving surgery and other urgently needed medical care for over a thousand children, Moslem and Christian alike, in those places.

"Dr. Nasir has proven himself to be an active leader both in his own community and in Arab American organizations. He was a founder of the Birzeit Society, is a past President of the National Arab-American Medical Society, and is an associate of the Multi-Ethnic Star Orchestra of Los Angeles. The HCEF award will be but a small sign of the gratitude that the people of the Holy Land feel for Dr. Nasir."

The HCEF Award will be presented to Dr. Musa Nasir at HCEF's 10th International Conference Awards Banquet on the evening of Friday, October 24, 2008 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Bethesda, Maryland.
