Come join us for a presentation by Renowned Israeli Peace Activist Rabbi Arik Ascherman

The Social Concerns group at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Derwood Maryland invites you to join us for a presentation by Rabbi Arik Ascherman on “Supporting Human Rights in Israel and the Occupied Territories."

    WHEN: Thursday, August 2, 2007   7:30 pm – 9:00 pm

WHERE: Parish Center (lower level at back of church)  St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church   6701 Muncaster Mill Road   Derwood, Maryland 20855

The Executive Director of Rabbis for Human Rights in Israel, Rabbi Ascherman is a renowned peacemaker who works towards reconciliation between Jews and Arabs of the region and has personally challenged his government’s actions related to human rights.  In terms of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Ascherman "is one of the few people who is trusted by leaders on both sides of the conflict, and that's to his credit. “

Ascherman's status as a peacemaker is hard-won. He has, for instance, been physically attacked by Jewish settlers during efforts to protect Palestinian Arabs trying to harvest their olive crops and faced legal consequences in taking a stand against home demolitions.
