More than 700 people from all over the world crowded into St. George's Cathedral to participate in the installment of Bishop Suheil Dawani as the new Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem on Sunday, April 15. Included in the congregation were friends, family, clergy and laity representing partners from North America, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Netherlands, Germany, Egypt, and Australia. Also well represented were the Lutheran World Federation, Lambeth Palace, Australia/New Zealand St George’s College Group, the Anglican Communion Office, the Church Army, the Church Mission Society (CMS), the United Society for the Propagation of the Gospel (USPG), the American Friends of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem, as well as the local Jewish and Muslim communities.

Bishop Younan led a delegation of the Lutheran communion to greet the new Bishop following the installation and wish him well. Bishop Younan has had a constructive dialogue with Bishop Dawani and they are already discussing signing a mutual recognition agreement. Bishop Younan looks forward to an increasingly good relationship between the Anglicans and Lutherans, as it strengthens both churches.
