On Sunday, July 10, the first center exclusively for senior citizens will be opened in the town of Birzeit. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be led by H.B. Michel Sabbah, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem. The center has been named in honor of Fr. Anton Buzo, the towns Catholic parish priest from 1943 to 1994. Through the incredible journey of political and economic turmoil that marked this half century, Fr. Buzo led the townspeople spiritually, and also in the establishing of the parish school, the building of the large, modern church, and the assistance of those in need. He was a father figure to the townspeople, and he now stands as a model of courage and faith in such turbulent times as the people of Birzeit continue to endure.

780 boys and girls from 11 villages and towns and 31 parishes paraded through Jerusalem's old city roads and alleys. The Journey to Jerusalem, an event organized to bring Palestinian children of various Christian denominations to Jerusalem for the Easter season, proceeded as planned, and was a great success.
At 9:30, most of the buses arrived at the top of the Mount of Olives, overlooking the Old City of Jerusalem. Some had left as early as 5:30 a.m., as they gathered children from Beit Sahour, Taybeh, Aboud, Nablus, Beit Jala, Bethlehem, Beit Sahour, Birzeit, Ramallah and Jerusalem.

Jessica Snyder,
HCEF Board of directors, Advisory Board, President and employees offer their condolences to all people of the Christian faith, that they may be strengthened in their ministry, and feed their sheep as John Paul II's exemplified in his service to the Church. They remember John Paul II, a beloved leader and shepherd for Catholics and all Christians around the world. His leadership of the Church followed in the courageous and sacrificial leadership of Peter. When the Lord asked Peter if he loved him above all other things, Peter replied "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." The Lord repeated his question twice more, each time replying "Then feed my sheep." That is how John Paul also showed his love for Christ, by giving not only Catholics, but all Christians, Muslims and Jews and all humanity, true "food of life."
