• HCEF Invited to Speak in Cincinnati

Speakers from the Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation will be making appeals at three catholic churches in the Cincinnati area in the month of June. They will address the parishes on behalf of the diocese of Jerusalem and discuss the plight of Christians in the Holy Land. Collections will be taken at the three churches to support the Holy Land Christians. The invitation has been extended as part of the Diocese of Cincinnati Mission Office 2002 Missionary Cooperation Plan.

• Honorees for HCEF's 4th International Conference

The Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation (HCEF) Board of Directors announces awards to institutions and individuals for FY 2002. The awards are given for outstanding contributions that provide support to the Christians in the Holy Land. The Living Stones Award is given to institutions that have made significant contributions to the welfare of Christians in the Holy Land. The HCEF Award is given to individuals who have made a lifetime commitment to assisting the Christians living in the Holy Land.

• $500,000 Grant From HCEF to Beit Jala Housing Project to Accommodate 24 Families

Family homes in Beit Jala have suffered greatly under Israeli shelling fired from the settlement in Gilo. The families of Beit Jala have average annual salaries of $4956.00 and thus, they cannot build houses without assistance. Over the past five years, these families have contributed to a general pool of funds that will help to build some affordable housing. Thus far, they have accrued approximately $8,000. A recent grant of $500,000 to the Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation (HCEF) will allow a housing project to be built for 24 families from Beit Jala.

• HCEF Committee Forms in Chicago

The Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation is proud to announce that an HCEF Committee has been formed in Chicago as a result of a forum on the Christians of the Holy Land held on April 16, 2002 at the First Presbyterian Church of La Grange at 150 South Ashland Avenue in La Grange, Illinois.

• The Israeli Armed Forces Invade the Christian Town of Ramallah On Good Friday.

The Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation condemns in the strongest possible terms the current invasion of the predominantly Christian city of Ramallah in the West Bank The city has been placed under curfew. Israeli snipers dominate the rooftops and are shooting anyone who moves in the open. Tank fire blasted away at many of the buildings

• HCEF Planning a Chicago Forum on the Christians in Holy Land

The Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation is planning a program on the Christians of the Holy Land in the Chicago area. President Rateb, KHS, and Don Kruse, Executive Vice President have begun to formulate plans for the program after initial inquiries indicated that a number of people in Chicago showed a significant amount of interest in the Palestinian Christians living in the Holy Land.

• HCEF Holds Organizational Retreat

The Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation (HCEF) held an organizational retreat in Rockville, MD on March 16, 2002. Twenty members of the organization were present to discuss the present condition of HCEF and to brainstorm new directions and policies for FY 2002. Participants included representation from the Board of Directors, The Advisory Board, chairs of committees and activists. Some of the participants came from other parts of the country.

• Palestinian Pastor Named Candidate for Presbyterian Moderator

The Greater Atlanta Presbytery has named Rev. Fahed Abu-Akel, mission pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Georgia, the third candidate for moderator of the upcoming 214th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA). Rev. Abu-Akel is a member and cofounder of the Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation Committee in Atlanta, Georgia.

• Xavier University Hosts HCEF Officials

Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio invited HCEF President Rateb Rabie, KHS and Father Drew Christiansen, S.J. of The Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation to speak to the students and faculty about the Christians in the Holy Land on February 25 at 4 PM in CBA3 and 7:30 PM at Bellarmine Chapel. Mr. Rabie and Father Christiansen recently returned from the Holy Land where they were engaged in work to support the Christians in the Holy Land suffering under military occupation.

• President of Bethlehem University Talks to Congress

The President of Bethlehem University in the West Bank of the Occupied Territories in Palestine, Brother Vincent Melham, spoke to members of Congress on January 28, 2003. P.D. John and Gabriel Habib of the Policy Institute for Religion and State and Robert Younes, M.D. Secretary for the Holy Land Christian Ecumenical Foundation accompanied him. Brother Vincent spoke at the HCEF's Fourth International Conference on the Christians of the Holy Land last October and graciously his offered his availability to HCEF to speak to Congressional representatives on his visit to Washington.
